On/Off Fluency is a live performance about communication, belonging, and life between languages. In the performance, speech is repeatedly converted to text, translated from English to Thai and back, and spoken again using a synthetic version of my own voice. I repeat these altered phrases - over time, errors and distortions accumulate. Each performance is unique. Through the imperfections of both human and machine language, the work explores what it means to understand and not be understood, to belong yet remain apart. It is informed by my experience of growing up in a Thai-Danish family and living between both countries.
